If you are like most people, your family pet is probably like a child in your home. Family pets are a part of your life. They are your companions, protectors and best friends. But just like any loved one, they can get hurt, sick or injured. You should be aware of the dangers your pet can come across and the financial strain it will put on your savings. From bee stings and allergic reactions to swallowing a strange object or breaking a bone, your pet could easily be hurt or injured and veterinary treatments may cost you more than thought. The last thing you need to worry about is an unexpected expense.
Having pet insurance will cover your pet in case of sickness, or injury. Most pet health insurances will cover all medical and veterinary cost or will at least provide a discount.
Most pet health care insurances also offer pet travel insurance, which will protect your pet whilst he is on holiday with you. If you're planning to take your pet with you on holiday it is recommended that you buy pet health care insurance.
What should I do with my pet when I'm emigrating?
When emigrating you are required to have your pet micro chipped, in order to be able to identify him and preventing him from getting lost. You will also have to get him vaccinated against rabies, arrange a blood test to see whether the vaccination was successful. Once these steps have been successfully completed, you must get an official pet's certificate from a government authorized vet. The certificate will become valid six months after the date your pet was blood sampled. It will be valid until your pet's rabies vaccination booster is due. Your pet should be treated for ticks and tapeworms 24 – 48 hours before entering the UK. When everything is treated and well, you will have to sign a pet declaration that it has not been outside any of the pets qualifying countries in the previous six months. It is quite a mission to take your pet with you when emigrating and it's not cheap either, but if you have veterinary pet insurance, you will be freed from many of these costs.

Because there are so many pet insurance companies available, the competition between them have become rather tense, so you shouldn't find it to difficult find a cheap pet insurance quote.
